My Principal Janet Seary: "This Is War...I Like War" (Read Our Emails)

Via Lenny:

About 2 years ago, I applied for an out-of-classroom position at Central High School, which required a cleared teaching credential and tenure with LAUSD. Nonetheless, my Principal Janet Seary gave this position to Nestor Albert Vargas, who at the time of his appointment had only an expired emergency credential, which only allowed him to work as a substitute. Because I didn't accept this unjust action in clear violation of the LAUSD/UTLA Collective Bargaining Agreement and subsequently filed a PERB action against my principal and LAUSD for allowing it to take place, all hell broke loose.

When I followed this up by reporting a bogus graduation at Central High school that gave valid high school diplomas to students who read at a level as low as 2nd grade, all out war was literally declared by Principal Janet Seary -- no lie, she actually took me outside of a faculty meeting and said, "This is war...I like war." What has followed is an incessant series of bogus charges and suspensions against me and threats from LAUSD.

I received this for trying to solicit the truth from other LAUSD employees who are presently being terrorized by LAUSD, while being set up to be the scapegoat for LAUSD administrative incompetence:

Principal Seary then sent me this memo for a meeting Jan. 28th -- she didn't show up -- and is now scheduled for this tomorrow:

NOTE: Sorry about the small print. Memo says:

"I have scheduled a conference with you for Thursday January 28, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in my office to discuss the student video and school documents containing student record information you posted on your website.

Please be advised that you are entitled to representation for this meeting since it may lead to disciplinary action. If you choose to bring a representative please inform me who that will be by 8:00 a.m. the morning of January 28, 2010.

Thank you for your cooperation.

And this follow-up after she flaked on the January 28th meeting:

Given that I am constantly being threatened with the ultimate loss of my job as a teacher with LAUSD for telling the truth -- which by their continuing campaign of harassment, I have no doubt that they will follow through on in the not too distant future -- I have nothing to lose by continuing to tell the truth. I do this with the hope that teachers, administrators and classified staff will realize with all the "rifs," displacements, and firings that you are not far behind me in LAUSD's never ending fight to maintain privilege and mediocrity in Los Angeles public education...at any cost.

Thoughts? I'll let you know how the meeting goes Thursday...

Great post. I like your zero bs posts they are the main reason I keep coming back here.

Have you ever wondered who posts some of this stuff that you come across? The internet never used to be like that, recently though it has turned around. What do you think?

It's kinda unclear what you mean. Are you referring to the blog or the cmments? I believe it takes a lot of work to keep up this blog as it is well researched , obviously subject to thoughtful revision, and clearly very relevant to the folks who read it. As a matter of fact, LAUSD reportedly pays someone to keep tabs on sites like this one. Afraid the house of cards is going to fall in on them, for once the suits are right.

Honestly i am in two minds on whether to take stand for or against. you are simply sharing your own point,i appreciate it. For some it will ring true for others it may not resemble their experience at all. I’m simply encouraging dialogue in the hope others will get the support they need.

i too am being harassed right now and also for being honest..this make me so mad! the system would rather have a suck up mediocre person than an innovative passionate teacher who is really interested in making a difference. This principal I am dealing with is extremely vindictive, cut throat and all about how it looks to further her own power motives.

Good for you Lenny. Keep up the fight. I won't go into it, but I've been harassed by administrators before, simply for being way too honest or just because the administrator was incompetent and should never have been allowed to be in a position of power.
