The LAUSD Borg: Where There's Smoke There's A Liar

The Borg.jpeg
(en español después) There's a great collateral benefit for the LAUSD Borg (Star Trek reference to humanoid interconnected collective the decisions of which are made by a hive mind mentality) that has run LAUSD's purposefully failed public education system generation after generation. The LAUSD Borg thinks that Angelenos no longer have the ability to defend themselves intellectually. While it is true that the majority of teachers seem to have accepted the LAUSD Borg juggernaut against which "resistance is futile," some Neo-like educators have shown a surprising resistance to the mind-numbing drone of the LAUSD Borg that has subjected them to years of meaningless faculty meetings and staff developments that never seem to go anywhere except further and further into uncharted space in a carefully designed process that either induces early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease or qualifies you to move higher up in the LAUSD Borg administration.

For those of you who have had a difficult time accepting that LAUSD would not be trying to fire me unless I had really done something horrendous, at least give me a moment of your time to make an argument why LAUSD might fear me more than they do UTLA or the Los Angeles Times, neither of whom have been willing to publish or act on the same knowledge that I have, because their bodies have been snatched by the LAUSD Borg and they no longer seem to have free will. "Alas, conscience does make cowards of us all."  Well, if not conscience, at the very least, the lose of employment.

After a 23 year history of teaching both here in the States and in France at both the secondary and university levels with excellent teaching evaluations and no negative marks of any kind against me, all hell broke loose last year after Superintendent Ramon Cortines became aware of my LAUSD Whistle Blower Complaint that my school had graduated 79 students with valid diplomas who had low elementary school reading abilities with some as low as 2nd grade ( There math skills were no better):

We Prove It: Central High School Graduating Students With 2nd Grade Reading Levels

What sent the LAUSD Borg hive a humming was the fact that I supported my claims with STAR Reading assessment scores and a video interview of a student who said he had been socially promoted year after year without ever learning anything, simply because he did not give his teacher a hard time.

In recent months the buzz around LAUSD got louder when results came out in New York City public schools that they had been fixing the student assessments for Black and Latino students who they had claimed for the last 7 years were doing better, but were, according to the most recent and more difficult assessments, actually doing worse:

NYC test scores plummet year after officials make statewide exams tougher

"After years of soaring test results, the number of city students who can read and do math at grade level plummeted on tougher-to-pass state exams.

Only 54% of third- through eighth-graders passed state math tests this year, compared with 82% the year before, a shocking decline of 28 percentage points.

Reading scores dropped 27 points, from 69% in the 2008-2009 school year to only 42%.

The declines, which erase nearly all the gains city kids have made in the past four years, come in the wake of a state-commissioned study that found the high-stakes exams had become easier to pass."

Now put this NYC public school reality in the context of an LAUSD that also threatens teachers with the loss of their jobs if a single subject secondary credentialed teacher is unable to get students standardized test scores up.

Even though these students are years behind grade level, what LAUSD has created is the teacher tempting setting for LAUSD teachers to give periodic assessments for their students while having all the answers, which might just save their jobs if they give them to the students.

While The Borg LAUSD seems incapable of creating actual public education reform, they might very well be able to take a page from Leonardo De Caprio's latest film Inception and create the illusion of it through the manipulation of assessments and the intimidation of teachers who more and more think that resistance is futile. Is it? Maybe not, I'm still standing.

Mr.Isenberg! There is something of a key issue here to which reports like this both suggest and allude but do not specifically address. That is that LAUSD has as its most powerful weapon the ability to rob whom it deems deserving of special attention of their health. You could say that the endless and worthless meetings, the superfluous paperwork and lack of support and the constant surveillance at school sites predispose their targets to infirmity but there is far more to it than that. Once chosen to walk the firing range, the individual is subjected to constant visits, called to frequent after school meetings, issued all sorts of threatening memorandums and threatened with all sorts of undesirable outcomes. The pressure is constant. In a way, what you refer to as the "rubber room" is a respite from this but one in which the threat of never knowing what will happen next while being considered not fit for duty become grinding issues. None of this is circumstantial, incidental or co-incidental. The district knows what it is doing all along. Everything is geared to soften the individual for whatever punitive measures the district intends to impose. In this malevolent practice, the district is nothing less than adroit. And whatever adroitness cannot accomplished, it is resolved by constancy. There is nothing but malice at work here.

As I side note, I was once told through victims of a local district that Ramon Cortines had been very specific with his details to the upper level administrators within that local district.

That was by hook or crook to get something on every teacher detained there. This for the sake of future actions or to be used as leverage against them. So much impartiality, equity or justice.

Mr.Isenberg! You're welcomed to use anything I've said. I intend to soon be submitting my retirement paperwork which will move me out of the district's reach. I have thoroughly researched each area with CALSTRS prior to beginning this process. The union would rather that I hold out for a re-assignment to another school to escape further abuse. But the union has no power to enforce such action and I'm the one who would have to sustain the onslaught while waiting for a rescue which will never come.
I wish you the greatest of good fortune in your contest with the district but I see that you know what to expect. Don't even for a moment deceive yourself into thinking that the union is riding up the draw with the cavalry. You also know what the district always tries to do at the very least. No matter how innocent the individual, teacher in this case, is, they still try to impose a number of suspension days and a letter of unsatisfactory service. Usually the range of suspension days is such that it threatens the individual's credential status. The union's idea of an acceptable rescue is to reduce the number of suspension days. However, the letter of unsatisfactory service remains in place.
I would also offer you further caution. I took note that you shared my information through LASUBS. No problems with that although I've personally chosen not to submit to that forum since May of 2009 due to my own observations and confirmations thereof. I've good cause to view the forum as a complicitous Trojan Horse for the union to fend off exposure of the union's complicitous relationship with the district. Both the forum and the STC are bound to the union for funding and their existence and, hence, have silenced or censored all those critical of and the current union and those baptised by the current adminstration to be their replacements. Of course, draw your own conclusions. But I wouldn't mention these things if I didn't have "good cause" to believe them to be true.
