Over the last 6 years, it has been hard to distinguish any difference between what you and Julie Washington do. Now, if you have your way, I will not have to. If Julie Washington gets in to continue your disastrous regime's approach to dealing with LAUSD, in another 3 years there likely will not be a UTLA to stand up for our rights.

It takes a great deal of chutzpah to accuse others of "lying by omission," when that is what your regime has done for two terms and a total of 6 years. As I have mentioned several times on this site, I was a teacher for 23 years with excellent Stulls and not a mark against me, until I reported the fraudulent graduation of 79 students from my school with valid diplomas, even though they had low elementary school reading abilities on the STAR Reading Assessment with some as low as 2nd grade.

You also know that teachers are giving assessments that they have the answers to, even though they are not supposed to grade them. But, with bogus value added assessment with a 45% margin of error, these teachers are not supposed to "help their students do well," when they know their very jobs may hang in the balance?

This is the same nonsense that was recently uncovered in NYC or don't you know that? Have these and other pieces of information been omitted from your consciousness? Have you been having a senior moment for the last 6 years?

Your regime at UTLA knows that there are hundreds of excellent tenured teachers that have been placed in "rubber rooms," forced into retirement, or dismissed outright without benefits, and in some cases with complete removal of all their salary and benefits, because they were good teachers who refused to go along with LAUSD fraud. And yet there has been a complete omission on the part of your administration to do anything but go along with these blatantly and in bad faith proceeding against UTLA members, thus giving them the color of validity by your playing along with it.

Instead of aggregating these clear violations of the California Education Code, Collective Bargaining, and LAUSD's own internal policy into one combined lawsuit that would have been far less expensive than making these individual teachers suffer this outrageous harassment on their own .

You have been in a position to see the repetitive practice of fabricating evidence against UTLA members by LAUSD and you omitted doing anything, except having those under you advise that the innocent teachers involved to cop a plea or retire, instead of doing something about it with the power you have had for 6 years that came from our our trust and our dues.

Elections are about holding those in power responsible for what they have allowed to transpire on their watch - a watch which where the omissions of your administrations was shared by Julie Washington, who not strives to carry on the policy of omission to act on behalf of dues paying UTLA members. Or is UTLA to remain like LAUSD where you can continue to fail and and allow the scapegoating of teachers without expecting an effective response from UTLA rank and file?

Why has your regime refuse to even offer the teachers being savaged by LAUSD an option of proceeding together in search of legal redress? Privacy? That's the same excuse that LAUSD
uses to hide their crimes. The right of privacy belongs to the teachers who are being unjustly deprived of their livelihood, not you or LAUSD, so they should be allowed to decide if they want to seek legal redress together. But your regime steadfastly refuses to make these people aware of each other or make rank and file aware of just how many of us you have allowed LAUSD to eliminate without raising a finger.

Given the well orchestrated attack on teachers by the mainstream press across the country, haven't the number of teacher that LAUSD is moving to eliminate recently jumped dramatically? How come UTLA rank and file is totally unaware of this? Maybe that is why only 13.75% of them voted.

Wouldn't an action in federal court that found LAUSD guilty of premediated harassment and discrimination against teachers jeopardize LAUSD federal funding and finally give the corrupt people running the District a reason to take UTLA seriously?

Maybe you can set up some more empty chairs in front of LAUSD in lieu of being able to get rank and file out, because of your failure to organize them around what UTLA defines a professional teacher union stands for and what we specifically would do to turn around purposefully failed LAUSD. Isn't that what real unions do if they expect rank and file to support them?

If administrators don't show up, school goes on. If teachers don't show up, school is over. It's a shame that you never learned this in 6 years and took advantage of it. But if you get a job working for LAUSD after you term out this summer, you wont have to and you should still be able to work closely with your hand picked successor Julie Washington and the rest of the old guard you are trying to leave in power at UTLA.

Susan Lee Schwartz Suffern, New York

Susan studied literacy education, English literature, and fine arts and holds a BA ('63) and MS ('65) from Brooklyn College, and has the equivalent of two master's degrees, earned in graduate studies of literacy, arts and education. She taught literacy skills and art, for four decades in NYC in elementary and secondary school.  In 1998 she won the New York State English Council (NYSEC) Educator of Excellence Award  for her successful teacher practice, studied by Harvard  and the LRDC at the University of Pittsburgh for the New Standards research. At the end of her research, her unique curriculum was selected by the LRDC to be used in their national staff development seminars for school superintendents. She was among six teachers -- from among the thousands across the nation-- observed during the research project, and her teaching practice met all the  principles of learning. In the nineties, she rose to prominence in national educational circles, while teaching at a new magnet school, East Side Middle School. The reading scores of her seventh grade students were at the top of the city, and on the first ELA, which two thirds of city students failed, her former students (then in the eight grade) were TENTH IN THE STATE.

 She writes often about what she learned about the genuine standards for learning, in an attempt to begin a national conversation about the authentic standards, so that there can be genuine reform. Her experience that ended her fine career in the NYC Public Schools has led her to write about the process that removed the top educators, silencing the voices of the classroom practitioners who would not accept anti-learning policies. Her essay here on Perdaily,  is one that describes this process. She is the voice of dedicated and talented classroom teachers who know why the schools are failing.

"I know first hand the financial, personal, emotional and physical damage that can result when school administrators, the Montana Education Association and the National Education Association put their own interests above the students, teachers and the taxpayers of the State of Montana My files contain mountains of paperwork including depositions, declarations of truth, notarized documents and exhibits resulting from an arduous legal process that finally ended when the Havre (Montana) School District settled two lawsuits - a Federal suit and one filed in State District Court. These documents also include a letter from a union representative stating, " This is nothing more than a witch hunt." Yet the union continued to allow the school administration to harass, bully and bring harm to me.
These two lawsuits resulted from a single incident that, had it been handled differently and under the light of public scrutiny, would not have snowballed into awards of more than $200,000 worth of damages. Funds that eventually came from the taxpayers' pockets. Ironically, as a taxpayer in Hill County, my family and I are helping to pay for the damages awarded to me. This covered the attorneys' fees. The settlement did not include my attorney fees, however the district, insurance and taxpayers paid the defendants attorney bills, which exceeded mine. The settlement was made on March 2, 2006."

Se necesita una gran cantidad de descaro de acusar a otros de "mentir por omisión," cuando eso es lo que su régimen ha hecho por dos períodos y un total de 6 años. Como ya he mencionado varias veces en este sitio, que era un maestro de 23 años con Stulls excelente y no una marca en mi contra, hasta que me informó de la graduación de 79 estudiantes fraudulenta de mi escuela con títulos válidos, a pesar de que había la escuela primaria bajo habilidades de lectura en la Evaluación de Lectura STAR con algunos tan bajos como 2 º grado.

Usted también sabe que los maestros están dando una apreciación que tienen las respuestas a, a pesar de que no se supone que el grado ellos. Pero, con falsos valor añadido de evaluación con un 45% de margen de error, estos profesores no deben "ayudar a sus alumnos les va bien," cuando saben que su empleo puede muy pendientes de un hilo?

Este es el sentido mismo que fue recientemente descubierto en Nueva York o si no lo sabes? ¿Estas y otras piezas de información se ha omitido de su conciencia? ¿Ha tenido un momento alto de los últimos 6 años?

Su régimen en UTLA sabe que hay cientos de excelentes maestros permanentes que se han colocado en "salas de goma," forzados a la jubilación, o descartar, de plano, sin beneficios, y en algunos casos con la extirpación completa de todos sus salarios y beneficios, ya que se buenos maestros que se negaron a ir junto con el fraude del LAUSD. Y sin embargo, ha habido una completa omisión por parte de su administración para hacer otra cosa que estar de acuerdo con estos descaradamente y en el procedimiento de mala fe contra los miembros de UTLA, lo que les da el color de validez por tu forma de tocar junto con él.

En lugar de agregar estos violaciónes clara del Código de Educación de California, la negociación colectiva, y la propia política interna del LAUSD en una demanda combinada que habría sido mucho menos costoso que hacer estos profesores sufren este acoso escandalosa por su cuenta.

Usted ha estado en una posición para ver la práctica repetitiva de fabricar pruebas contra los miembros de UTLA por el LAUSD y omite hacer nada, excepto que los menores de su conocimiento que los profesores inocentes involucrados policía un motivo o jubilarse, en vez de hacer algo al respecto con el poder que han tenido desde hace 6 años que vino de nuestra confianza y nuestras cuotas.

Las elecciones son sobre la celebración de los gobernantes responsables de lo que ha permitido a transpirar en su reloj - un reloj que cuando la omisión de su administración es compartida por Julie Washington, que no se esfuerza por llevar adelante la política de omisión de actuar en nombre de las cuotas pago de los miembros de UTLA. ¿O es UTLA a permanecer como el LAUSD, donde puedes seguir a fallar y ya permite la búsqueda de chivos expiatorios de los docentes sin esperar una respuesta eficaz desde el nivel UTLA y el archivo?

¿Por qué el régimen se niegan a ofrecer incluso a los maestros del LAUSD está destrozada por una opción de actuar juntos en la búsqueda de reparación legal? Privacidad? Esa es la misma excusa que el LAUSD
utiliza para ocultar sus crímenes. El derecho a la intimidad pertenece a los maestros que están injustamente privados de su medio de vida, no usted o el LAUSD , por lo que debe estar facultada para decidir si quieren obtener la reparación judicial juntos. Sin embargo, su régimen se niega siempre a hacer estas personas conscientes de sí o hacer filas conscientes de lo que muchos de nosotros que han permitido que el LAUSD para eliminar sin levantar un dedo.

Dada la bien orquestada ataque a los profesores por la gran prensa de todo el país, no tienen el número de maestros que el LAUSD se está moviendo para eliminar recientemente saltó dramáticamente? ¿Por qué rango UTLA y el archivo es totalmente consciente de ello? Tal vez es por eso que sólo el 13,75% de ellos votaron.

¿No sería una acción en una corte federal que se encuentra el LAUSD culpable de acoso premeditada y la discriminación contra los maestros del LAUSD en peligro los fondos federales y, finalmente, dar a la gente corrupta que ejecuta el Distrito una razón para tomar UTLA en serio?

Tal vez usted puede configurar más sillas vacías en la parte delantera del LAUSD en lugar de ser capaz de obtener bases a cabo, debido a su imposibilidad de reunirlos en torno a lo que UTLA define una unión profesional de los docentes representa y lo que específicamente lo haría a su vez a en torno a propósito no LAUSD. ¿No es eso lo que los sindicatos hacen los verdaderos si esperan bases para apoyarlos?

Si los administradores no se presenta, la escuela continúa. Si los maestros no se presentan, la escuela ha terminado. Es una pena que nunca aprendí en 6 años y se aprovechó de ella. Pero si usted consigue un trabajo en el LAUSD después de plazo a cabo este verano, usted no tendrá que y usted debe ser capaz de trabajar de cerca con su mano escogida sucesor Julie Washington y el resto de la vieja guardia que está tratando de dejar en el poder en UTLA.
