LAUSD: THE WAR ON ART OR THE ART OF WAR ON PUBLIC EDUCATION?

The Art of War.jpg
(Mensaje se repite en EspaƱol) Recently, I received the following query as to why I thought with the passage of Proposition 30, art programs have not been restored. Let me know if you agree or disagree with my answer and analysis of this question. "Lenny, do you think that the Arts have a legal remedy, since they have been picked on to a far greater extent, and Arts programs are not being restored. The new funding was supposed to restore programs, but the board did not use the money for this. Arts programs are still cut. Any suggestions? Thanks."

THE 99 CENTS STORE EDUCATION FOR THE 99%

99 Cents Store.jpg
In the old world from which most of our ancestors came, America served as a beacon, because unlike this stratified world of our origin, America was a place where if you worked hard both you and your family could prosper. Fundamental to this ability to prosper was the availability of having your children educated at public expense to their highest potential. This gave access to the same high level of critical thinking skills education that in the old country had been reserved only to the rich and upper class. Vindication of this revolutionary idea has been the unparalleled economic and intellectual achievement that the United States has been able to attain up until now, which has made us the leading society- both economically and intellectual- in the world.
