DEASY'S RESIGNATION IS JUST ANOTHER TACTIC TO AVOID REAL SCRUTINY AT LAUSD

Timing is everything ...

Board President Vladovic - who recently apologized for his intemperate comments that apparently were too close to the truth for the Board's comfort - is "shocked" and "saddened" that Superintendent Deasy decided to resign. But wait a minute - the resignation takes effect in February! Wasn't the Board supposed to meet to discuss his dismal performance and determine whether to "renew" his contract (another way to say "FIRE"). If Deasy is so incompetent that his continued employment is seriously challenged, why should students, parents, and teachers have to put up with his excesses for even a minute after the Board meets to decide his fate.

This is way too easy. It takes the heat off of both Deasy and the Board that has acquiesced, tolerated, encouraged, and participated in unprecedented attacks on teachers. Although some of the teacher targeted should, indeed, find another way to spend their time, isn't it interesting that there are still reports of administrators being demoted because they took no action despite complaints from parents? In contrast, many of the teachers in "teacher jail" are there because of Deasy's Draconian policy of "zero tolerance". The problem is that even when teachers are exonerated, Deasy refuses to take innocent as an answer and in at least one alleged incident, took it upon himself to unilaterally dismiss a teacher and in another to disregard the findings of the very body charged with determining the truth of allegations in accordance with the legal standards and findings of fact required by the legislature.

The public should DEMAND a full hearing and a DECISION by the Board whether Deasy should be retained. Then, there will be a record for the next Board election so that we, the public, can determine if the Board is in Deasy's pocket or if the Board is truly interested in the ensuring that public schools continue to be "public" for all and not a parking lot for the students who can't get admitted to the charter schools that will siphon off public funds for private benefit.

For the last 4 years, this blog has always tried to address various aspects of LAUSD dysfunctionality and not the latest joker that the Board puts in place to implement its extremely flawed and longstanding model of top-down education that has shown no improvement for generations. LAUSD administration as constituted has never been held accountable to the poor and minority children and their families that are now the majority in our Los Angeles society. Whether it be Romer, Brewer, Cortines, or Deasy, there will always be the latest political, Black, Latino, White hope for maintaining the status quo- whatever it takes- where there is no place for poor children of color to live up to their potential as the rule and not the rare exception that defies the odds. Rather than relax on the news of Deasy's resignation, which will surely be followed by another superintendent cut from the same privatizing-blame-teachers LAUSD-Broad-Gates agenda, both teachers and parents need to redouble their efforts to continue pushing for a complete reorganization of LAUSD into an accountable entity where this destructive nonsense is no longer tolerated or possible.

Presidente de la Junta Vladovic - quien recientemente se disculpó por sus comentarios desmedidos que, aparentemente, estaban demasiado cerca de la verdad para la comodidad de la Junta - está " sorprendido " y " triste " que Superintendente Deasy decidió renunciar . Pero espere un minuto - sea efectiva la renuncia en febrero ! ¿No fue el Consejo supone que se reúnen para hablar de su pésimo desempeño y determinar si se debe " renovar " su contrato (otra forma de decir " FIRE ") . Esto es demasiado fácil. Se necesita el calor de tanto Deasy y la Junta , que ha aceptado , tolerado , alentado y participado en los ataques sin precedentes contra los maestros . Aunque algunos de los maestros dirigido debe , en efecto , encontrar otra manera de pasar el tiempo , ¿no es interesante que aún hay informes de los administradores está degradado debido a que no tomaron ninguna medida a pesar de las quejas de los padres? El público debe exigir una audiencia y una decisión de la Junta si Deasy debe mantenerse. A continuación , habrá un registro para las próximas elecciones Consejo, para que nosotros, el público , podemos determinar si la Junta está en el bolsillo de Deasy o si la Junta está verdaderamente interesado en la que las escuelas públicas siguen siendo "pública" para todos y no es una playa de estacionamiento para los estudiantes que no pueden ser admitido a las escuelas charter que desviar fondos públicos para beneficio privado .

Administración del LAUSD en su composición nunca se ha responsabilizado de los pobres y de las minorías los niños y sus familias , que ahora son mayoría en nuestra sociedad de Los Angeles. Ya se trate de Romer , Brewer, Cortines , o Deasy , siempre habrá más tardar, esperanza blanca político , Negro , Latino para mantener el status quo - lo que sea - , donde no hay lugar para los niños pobres de color a la altura de su potencial como la regla y no la excepción rara que desafía las probabilidades. We'll people, the board has picked its side. Deasy's contract was extended and next they will lay this iPad deal on the taxpayers. Now we are convince that the board is together with deasy with all these poor decisions that are draining our school district. Now we know. Our enemy includes those board members who voted to retain deasy. Out with all of them. Pay back will be severe for this board.

The only consolation I can see is when Lenny is acquitted and LAUSD will have to pay him big bucks for what they put him through. I don't mind my taxpayer money being used for that.

LAUSD is the General Motors of education. It is too big to fail. When it does fail, it will get some bailout. What incentive does Deasy or any board member have to do the right thing? They will never be held accountable for wasting billions of taxpayer money.

Will things change for the better with Deasy's (anticipated) departure? I'm sure that Deasy's business contacts have a job waiting for him that will pay him as much (if not more) than being superintendent of LAUSD.

Lenny, although you are not an administrator, maybe you should apply for Deasy's job. Could you do a better job of running LAUSD? I don't think the board would consider you because of your lack of administrative experience but, if you were considered, you could turn LAUSD around.

If LAUSD doesn't take you, it would need to consider either a senior administrator from within or an experienced superintendent from another district. An insider wouldn't implement the changes LAUSD needs. An outsider would be too overwhelmed with the politics and bureaucracy to get anything done. If you (or someone like you) doesn't take Deasy's job, then LAUSD will continue to be a failing district.

As a teacher, falsely accused and lanquishing in teacher jail, the news of Deasy's resignation brought smiles, laughter and socializing among the staff at Beaudry. Not only are teachers tired of this bully who has promoted an environment of fear and retaliation, other staff members were happy this tyrant was leaving. If this timid board refuses to terminate Deasy then we know they are complicit in this ipad fiasco and turning our public district over to private concerns. We need a superintendent who believes in public education, Deasy doesn't. He believes in corporatists who are attempting to drain our district of monies while he and his merry raiders go on to another district to do the same. Yes, Deasy will leave but does the board have the leadership, the guts, the interest of the taxpayers in mind when deciding his fate. If not, we will be saddled with this lame duck until he does more harm to the district. Board of Education, will you stand by and allow that to happen. Fire Deasy and his senior staff now.

It strongly appears that Deasy's announced resignation is a ploy to obtain another one-year contract from the Board. He floated the announcement to the field reps of Kayser and Valdovic and others--and they all took the bait. Everyone got excited and started to celebrate. But the announcement never came with a letter of resignation. Remember when Deasy stated that he would resign if Vladovic became the Board president? That was another ploy on Deasy's part. It was a bluff and he did not resign. The Board will probably renew Deasy's contract on October 29 because Deasy has them where he wants. Deasy believes he can leverage the Board. The Board will justify keeping Deasy on the premise that without him, District initiatives, such as the iPad issue, Common Core implementation,Local Control Funding Formula(LCFF)implementation, compliance issues regarding ELLs, and contract negotiations, including the pay raise issue, and much more, have to be completed ASAP. I firmly believe that the District could function without Deasy. The Board has an opportunity to dump Deasy. Kayser, Zimmer, LaMotte, and Ratliff(four votes) should vote to dump Deasy. He has created too much turmoil. Besides they were all supported by UTLA. If thy do not, remember that Kayser, and Vadovic are up for reelection in March of 2015. UTLA and Fletcher should be demanding that the Board not renew Deasy's contract on the basis of Deasy's past actions and contempt for teachers--but instead, Fletcher puts out a statement stating that Deasy is not the issue. We must all be at the Board on October 29, demanding that Deasy be terminated and that the $1-bil iPad roll out must be cancelled. Bond monies must be spent on building new schools and modernizing old schools, not on electronic toys.

Let's remember that one's resignation does not expunge their previous civil and criminal liability incurred while performing that job.

So many teachers are saying the same thing, Lenny. AS long as Big Business continues to see our students as pawns in their business model, no true education for all will be seen..the public will still be handed mature teachers heads on a platter in the sad Roman audience mentality that screams for bloodletting, while they neglect to raise and support their kids learning, millions of dollars will be spent on shiny new projects, while schools suffer with ants, no or too fervent AC and heating systems, unhealthy tons of carbs for students BIC, uneven or no needed materials and up to date classroom tools, aggressive and sometimes vindictive Administrators who affect their employees lives with no thought to fairness or human=ness, and most of all, lies that all they do is 'for the children,' when the children KNOW those in charge in many cases could care less about them...Until parents get up off their asses and see the realities of Lausd, we are in a perpetual swirling cesspool that endangers our very Democracy..not trying to be dramatic, but this is..
