DEMOCRACY IN CHAINS- LAISSEZ FAIRE CAPITALISM ON STEROIDS

Professor Nancy Maclean.jpgIn her book Democracy in Chains, Professor Nancy MacLean of Duke University in North Carolina.clearly lays out the now more than 40 year master plan that the Koch brothers and other mega rich oligarchs have funded to dumb down the American electorate to the point of their now literally being incapable of understanding what she is talking about. This is because they no longer have the requisite critical thinking skills necessary to do so. These skills have been systematically removed from our public education system as this country in 2018 regrettably realizes the orwellian newspeak world so presciently described in George Orwell's novel 1984.

This didn't just happen. But step by systematic step the "dismantling of the administrative state," has been accomplished by monomaniacal oligarches being able to give themselves a disproportionate and undemocratic say as to what goes on in this country in complete derogation of the fundamental democratic principle of "one man [or woman], one vote" and by now being able to completely compromise the checks and balances between the three branches of government by the Supreme Court ruling in Citizen United that has given them the ability to spend unlimited amounts on elections and lobbying under the guise that these corporate legal fictions- allowed for the initial purpose of limited liability- now have individual civil rights.

What doesn't seem to occur to the liberal intelligentsia of this country is that the majority of Americans of whatever ethnicity no longer receive the broad spectrum renaissance based public education that existed up until the late 1960s, when Koch and his boys started after it, so that this public education system has now systematically been dismantled, so that in a putative democracy like the United States, the vast majority of all Ameircans no longer understand the historical context in which they live or in which Professor MacLean writes.

At the beginning of this country corporations existed at the will of the sovereign. If they broke the rules set down by the State, the State could revoke their charter and put them out of business. In 2018, we have now gotten to the point that the corporate oligarchy- which now clearly runs this country- can now revoke or change any aspect of government that dares to stand up to or question its unfettered right to make unlimited amounts of money, no matter what the not so far off cost is to earth's environment and the future of our specie on this planet- yes, insanity.

Although there is now actually a super majority in this country of people who don't like what's going on, with commercial media run by 5 corporations and public media controlled by their foundations, this super majority no longer has a venue in which they can take cognizance of their majority status and act accordingly.

In this context, the fight for Net Neutrality becomes all the more important, because any opposition to the oligarchy juggernaut must have an uncensored venue in which to express itself and educate the citizenry as to what is really going on and what they can do about it.

It occurred to me as I went over Professor MacLean's rich text in Democracy in Chains and watched her several appearances on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now, that a good teacher might use her work the way I used Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, to lay out a true and critical thinking framework to offer an alternative more viable educational formation.

One must not forget that at least for now, the technology that the Kochs have used for the last 40 years to enslave this country is amoral- not immoral. When all is said and done the captured United States government was unable to shut down Ed Snowden or anyone else willing to speak truth to power- no matter what the cost to them personally.

E.D Hirsch explainedthat shared knowledge is essential for a democracy. The war on our public schools began decades ago. http://www.aft.org/sites/default/files/periodicals/hirsch.pdf

Lenny tells us of the 40 year master plan that the Koch brothers and other mega rich oligarchs have funded to dumb down the American electorate to the point that they are literally incapable of understanding information" that is presented in the media or anywhere.

David Safier writes in the Tucson Weekly about well-funded efforts by the billionaire Koch Brothers to promote their anti-government, free-market libertarian views into local high schools. https://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/guest-opinion/Content?oid=12119561

Lenny is right on the mark when he writes about what happens when our people are intentionally dumbed down. As John Gatto predicted in his book:
"Dumbing Us Down" : https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/516764-dumbing-us-down-the-hidden-curriculum-of-compulsory-schooling , our citizens will not be able to analyze what is happening before their eyes. Critical thinking skills BTW, depend on prior knowledge, so you can compare what is happening to what you know.

Yes Lenny, our citizens no longer have the requisite critical thinking skills necessary to grasp the important issues in the tsunami of information drowning them each day by the EDUCATIONAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX https://greatschoolwars.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/eic-oct_11.pdf

"This didn't just happen. But step by systematic step the "dismantling of the administrative state,"

You got that right Lenny. I travel as a photographer and I meet few people who grasp how creeping authoritarianism is dismantling our 3 branches.
